Food at School

Food at School

  • Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for school aged children. It provides them with the energy they need to function. Without a healthy breakfast, children may have difficulty paying attention and concentrating in class, therefore learning may not be optimal. Please be sure to provide your child with a healthy breakfast every morning.
  • Snack. If your child has snack time during the school day, please be sure that you send a healthy snack. Cookies, chips, and candy are not appropriate school snacks. Fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, yogurt, applesauce and muffins are better choices.
  • Lunch. Please make every effort to send only healthy foods to school for your child's lunch. Foods of minimal nutritional value, foods that list sugar as the first ingredient, and foods with a fat content of greater than 8% per serving should not be sent to school.
  • No Sharing! Children are strongly discouraged from sharing food in school.
  • Classroom celebrations that can include food are limited to holiday celebrations and approved grade level celebrations. All food brought to school must have an ingredient label, be of nutritious value, safe for students with food allergies and pre-approved by the classroom teacher.
