Principal

Dear Woodside Parents:

I am excited to be the Principal of Woodside Elementary School and a member of the River Vale Schools community.  As a graduate of the River Vale Public Schools and, subsequently, Pascack Valley High School, I am a strong believer in the role our local public schools play, and the positive impact they have in setting our students up for success both in school and beyond.

The River Vale Schools mission statement alludes to our goals in “promoting self-discipline, motivation, and academic excellence in all children.”  There are numerous ways to do this and it often varies from student to student.   Our outstanding staff prides themselves on providing an environment where these qualities can be achieved.

While there will always be an underlying focus on academic growth and development, just as important to students in this elementary age range, is similar progress and achievement in developing important social skills.  Areas such as self awareness, resiliency, honesty, and building relationship skills provide a framework for the full development of a child’s character.  We are fortunate to have the staff and resources at Woodside to help students in each of these areas, as well.

We are thankful to have wonderful learning tools, which give our students outstanding opportunities to achieve their goals.  Many thanks to our Board of Education, the River Vale Education Fund, and the River Vale Parent Teacher Association, who have all been partners in securing these resources that benefit our students and staff.

Thirty-three years after I graduated from Holdrum, I am thrilled to be back as a contributing member of this outstanding school community, with the hopes of preparing the next generation of River Vale students for a successful future.  Should you have any questions or concerns regarding any facet of Woodside School, please do not hesitate to reach out.  I look forward to working together to watch our students achieve success, overcome failure, and grow into great people….

Sincerely,
Chris Kirkby
